Frequently Asked Questions

Anti-Wrinkle Injections

How do the injections work?

We use Treatment of Lines and Wrinkles, which is the trade name for Botulinum Toxin, a purified protein, which is injected with a very fine needle into selected muscles. At KMK AESTHETICS, all injectables are administered by medical experts for both men and women. Treatment of Lines and Wrinkles injections work by interrupting this signal in the muscle, leaving them relaxed and unable to crease the skin. Discomfort is minimal and the treatment is over in a matter of minutes. Unlike surgery, Treatment of Lines and Wrinkles is fast, simple, and minimally invasive with no downtime or recovery.

Most patients require only one treatment, however, this varies depending on a number of factors and where you had the Treatment of Lines and Wrinkles, which will be discussed with you in your consultation.

Dermal Fillers

How does it work?

Injectable fillers are based on a natural substance, called hyaluronic acid which is a crystal-clear, non-animal, biodegradable gel. The gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. We can use a topical anaesthetic to numb the area slightly to reduce any discomfort you might feel. Instant long-lasting results have made this a very popular treatment. We are able to create natural enhancement which is safe for your skin. Allergies are extremely uncommon, however as with any procedure there is a possibility. We will discuss all your options with you during your consultation.

What results can I expect?

Immediate results after treatment which can last up to 12 months, depending on the product used and the area treated

What is the recovery period like?

No recovery time is required, post treatment there may be some tenderness, redness and swelling, this is very normal and will usually go within a few days.

Collagen Injections (Sculptra)

Collagen: what is it?

For smooth, healthy-looking skin to develop, collagen is essential. When you age, your body makes less collagen. After you turn 20, your body loses about 1% of its collagen per year. Around this time, wrinkles may appear.

How do collagen-stimulating injections work?

Collagen-stimulating injections are used to rebuild the skin’s deep, underlying structure, which helps to reduce facial wrinkles. Results tend to appear gradually over the course of treatment and may last for two years.

What Parts of the Body Do We Treat?

We treat many areas of the face including cheeks, temples, jawline and neck.

Who can have collagen injections?

This treatment may be available to everyone over 18 with a sound immune system. This procedure is particularly beneficial for those who have lost a significant quantity of facial volume due to excessive activity or medical issues lipodystrophy. It’s also an excellent option for people who want a more subtle and progressive enhancement or revolumisation of their face. If you have an allergic reaction to some of the ingredients or are either pregnant, trying to get pregnant or are breast feeding treatment is not available.

How Long Does It Take?

The numbing and injection of the treatment area takes about an Hour.

Will I Have To Take Time Off?

It’s not uncommon for injections to result in minor bruising and swelling, which can be readily disguised with make-up. So, as a result, there is only a limited amount of downtime in terms of social interaction.

How Many Treatments?

Results always vary, but someone in their forties may require four injections in total with two vials injected at two separate appointments fortnightly apart, which can produce results that last for a few years or longer.

What is the cost?

The recommended treatment dosage is what will define the overall costs. As everyone is different, It’s always best to come in for an accurate assessment first.

PDO Threads

What is the expected lifespan of PDO threads?
  • The lifespan depends on various factors, including the kind and condition of the user’s skin, lifestyle, age, and the type and quantity of product they are using.
  • The outcome is also dependent on other lifestyle variables such as smoking, drinking, exercising and diet.
  • PDO threads aid in producing new collagen, which supports your face and provides a six to twelve-month tightening effect.
  • All the PDO threads we use are responsibly supplied from respected pharma companies and are of the highest quality.
  • We utilise only premium PDO threads produced in Korea and are TGA authorised.
Is the PDO procedure safe?

Only medical-grade devices and cosmetic injectables registered on the Australian register of therapeutic goods (Artg) and manufactured by a recognised pharmaceutical business are utilised by body shaping clinics.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is part of the Australian government’s Health Department and regulates all health-related products. After a product is given the green light, the TGA monitors and enforces the quality and reporting of every product.

Are PDO threads painful?
  • Before a PDO thread procedure, a topical anaesthetic is administered to ensure you are as comfortable as possible.
  • After the procedure, you may feel a firm sensation and discomfort in the treated area for a few days.
  • Pain does vary between patients and depends on your levels of tolerance and the health of the tissue treated.
How Should I Get Ready for My Treatment?
  • Consult your GP if unsure about any underlying conditions such as an auto-immune disease or other condition
  • Reschedule if you have an infection in the area needing treatment
  • Don’t take any anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol
  • Avoid having any dental work done for one week before the PDO procedure
  • Let us know if you are using warfarin, ibuprofen, aspirin, other blood thinners, or fish oil.
What is the Process?

Before your first procedure, our doctor and the cosmetic injector will meet with you to answer questions, go over the process, and determine whether PDO threads are right for you and whether you’ll need one or more sessions. Once agreed, we will design a procedure to suit your needs and look and produce the best results.

Because there is no scalpel, no stitches are necessary; nonetheless, a topical anaesthetic is administered and the PDO threads placed using a micro-needle.

How long does the procedure take?

Usually, it takes around thirty minutes to treat each eye.

Are thread lifts painful?

The procedure itself is not painful as a local anaesthetic is used. There will be some soreness for the following few days that can be treated with paracetamol.

Can treatments with skin lasers impact a recent Thread Lift?

No, a skin laser treatment is performed on the face’s surface, so the laser will not penetrate the deeper tissue.

Fat Dissolving Injections

How many treatments do I need?

Most people require two to four treatments which will be spaced approximately six to eight weeks apart.

What is the process?

The treatment involves several smaller injections applied directly into the neck fat along a grid line or pattern.

How long does it take?

The first consultation and treatment will take approximately 1 hour, with each of the following therapies taking about 45 mins each.

How long will the results last?

As the fat loss in the treatment is considered semi-permanent, long term studies have shown results can last for five years or more. This is dependent on a person’s weight gain or loss into the future.

Is there a risk of any side effects?

This treatment is known to cause some bruising, local swelling, soreness, and redness, which usually subsides within a week. It is also common for the area to be a little numb and tingly for 2-3 weeks after treatment.

How does it compare to other double chin treatments?

Fat-dissolving treatment by injection provides lasting results, is a far less invasive treatment to surgery, with fewer risks, is less expensive and has a shorter recovery time.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Skin Rejuvenation

What areas of the body are treated with PRP?

Although PRP can be used on any part of the body, it is most commonly used for facial rejuvenation, scar reduction, dark bags under the eyes, stretch marks on the breasts, stomach, thighs, and hair loss both men and women.

How long will the treatment take?

After the initial consultation, generally, 2-3 treatments spread over 4-6 week intervals are advised; however, more treatments may be necessary depending on the size of the area and the desired results. Each treatment will take around 1 hour to complete. Follow up treatments may occur once a year after the initial treatment to help boost and maintain results.

When will the results be noticeable?

New cells will be formed under the skin right away, improving the surface layers immediately. You will see visible results six to twelve weeks after the procedure, with continued improvements lasting up to one year. To ensure the best possible outcome, you should adhere to standard medical guidelines, including eating a healthy diet, avoiding excessive caffeine and alcohol consumption, and plenty of rest days after the procedure.

How does this compare to other treatments?

PRP treatment is not the vampire facial treatment that has been popular online and made headlines in the media. PRP treatments are a popular choice as they are non-invasive and less costly than many other options. Alternatives include having no treatment, topical products, different aesthetic procedures, chemical peels, BBL, micro-needling without PRP, dermal fillers and neurotoxin treatments and surgery. It would be best to discuss your options with your doctor, especially if there are underlying health issues.

What to do before treatment?

Five days before your treatment, we recommend avoiding blood-thinning medication, including aspirin and dietary supplements such as

multivitamins, fish oils, omega 6 & 3, ginseng, ginkgo, garlic, green tea, vitamin E, and anything else known to increase blood bruising. We also recommend not to use medications that contain glycolic acid, vitamin A or retinol.

Two days beforehand, we recommend not to have other treatments such as laser peels, exfoliants or microdermabrasion.

What to do so after treatment?

For the first 24 hours after treatment, we recommend you don’t exercise to avoid unnecessary pressure on the region. If the PRP treatment is for hair loss, avoid washing your hair for the first 5-6 hours. You can take aspirin after the first 48 hours for pain management, and anti-inflammatory medicines like ibuprofen and Nurofen can be taken about 14 days after treatment unless otherwise directed by a nurse or doctor.

We can also recommend products that you can use on the skin to relieve and normalise the skin as quick as possible. You should consult your skincare professional regarding your recovery time.

How many treatments will I need?

A personal plan will be discussed in your consultation.

Mesotherapy

How is the treatment done?

Very little downtime is involved in the process. In just 5 minutes, we’ll use a hand-held device with a microscopic needle to apply hyaluronic acid and a cocktail of moisture rich vitamins and minerals under the surface of the skin to help create elasticity, improve hydration, and maintain your skin tone throughout. Because the application occurs at the perfect depth of the skin, the moisture-rich formula reaches the cells it needs to, giving your skin the perfect boost.

What can Mesotherapy be used for?

Mesotherapy can be used anywhere on the face or the body that’s causing you concern. If you’re worried about the appearance of your skin thanks to pigmentation issues or cellulite Mesotherapy is a great treatment.

Who is Mesotherapy for?

Mesotherapy is for clients who wants an instant glow and boost of vitamins & minerals. It’s a great treatment for a quick “pick me up” for dull looking skin as Mesotherapy helps promote hydration, skins natural nutrients and skin collagen. This treatment requires no downtime.

Are there any side effects?

You may notice some bruising for a day, but with the right aftercare, you’ll be ready to go just after your treatment session with a instant skin glow.

Micro Needling

What is Micro needling?

Micro needling is typically used for skin rejuvenation and scar repair. We use a medical device that creates controlled micro-surgical needle punctures of the skin surface. This allows for the stimulation of collagen renewing your skin.

How many treatments will I need?

We may recommend a series of treatments, normally with at least 6 weeks between procedures, to achieve the maximum cosmetic result.

What will I look like after the treatment is done?

Your skin will be red, resembling moderate sunburn, as the skin naturally heals the redness will resolve. Your skin may remain red for three or four days after the treatment, although it is usual for it to subside within two days and many people are able to return to their normal activities the same or next day.

How will I know if the treatment is right for me?

It best to book in a consultation with our Cosmetic Practitioner to discuss.

Dermaplaning

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a treatment that uses a medical scalpel to gently exfoliate the outer layer of dead skin cells and remove fine facial hair commonly known as “peach fuzz”, technically called “vellus” hair. it can be used as an alternative to laser treatments and microdermabrasion or along with them for an enhanced result. This procedure will give your skin a more radiant appearance. Following the treatment, makeup application is smoother and other skincare products are able to penetrate deeper in turn making hem more effective.

Am I a good candidate?

The ideal candidate for Dermaplaning has aging, dry, rough, or uneven skin tone. Dermaplaning can also help reduce the appearance of shallow acne scars, fine lines and superficial hyperpigmentation.

Is the treatment safe?

This treatment is extremely safe when performed by a properly trained skincare professional. There is no more risk to the skin than when you shave your legs. There is also no downtime associated with this procedure.

Does it hurt? Will it cause cuts?

Dermaplaning is effective by performing a gentle scraping motion across the skin’s surface. With hair removal such as waxing and threading, most people have the idea that all hair removal is painful, but Dermaplaning is entirely painless. There are risks of cuts on the skin, however they are small and very minor as the pressure used for Dermaplaning cannot cause a deep cut. These nicks and scrapes heal within 24-48 hours.

Will it make the hair on my face grow back thicker and darker?

No. There are different types of hair that grow on the body; vellus hair and terminal hair. Vellus hair is found on most areas of the body except palms, soles, lips and genital areas, whereas terminal hairs are found on the scalp, underarms and pubic region. The soft and fine vellus hair grows back at the same rate and texture.

What is the benefit of adding a chemical peel with Dermaplaning?

Hyperkeratosis is a build up of dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. By removing this initial layer, a chemical peel is able to penetrate deeper into the dermis resulting in a more effective treatment. The conjunction of dermaplaning and a chemical peel leaves the skin refreshed and rejuvenated. Together they promote new skin growth and target problems such as aging, sun spots and environmental damage.

How long is the treatment? How often can I have it done?

Dermaplaning takes anywhere between 30-45 minutes and can be performed every 3-4 weeks. The treatment itself removes approximately 21 days worth of dead skin so it is important to let your skin rejuvenate before your next appointment

What is the difference between dermaplaning and microdermabrasion?

Both options are a form of physical exfoliation. Dermaplaning removes vellus hair (peach fuzz) and dead skin cells from the skin, microdermabrasion also exfoliate the surface of the skin, but not as thoroughly or deeply as dermaplaning does.

LED Light Therapy

What is LED Light Therapy?

LED Light Therapy is a skincare treatment that uses varying wavelengths of light. Usually near-infrared, red, yellow, green and blue or combinations of these, depending on your skincare concern.

Large, high-intensity LED lights were initially developed by NASA for experiments in growing plants in space. Unexpectedly, NASA also found that many of the side-effects of low gravity were reduced in the astronauts conducting these experiments by exposure to the powerful LED lights.

Doctors have been aware of the healing benefits of light for over a hundred years. However, they lacked the ability to offer intense light therapy without the accompanying intense heat of traditional light sources. Thanks to NASA, this all changed.

What can LED Light Therapy do?

LED Light Therapy commonly aids in:

  • Increasing blood circulation
  • Stimulating collagen production
  • Assisting to heal wounds
  • Helping to repair damaged skin
  • Increasing RNA and DNA synthesis, helping damaged cells to replace more promptly
  • Stimulating fibroblastic activity
  • Killing bacteria that cause acne
  • Comfort sore muscles, aches and pains
  • Increasing oxygenation and restoration of the skin’s natural cellular activity, which keeps the skin renewed and fresh.
Is LED Light Therapy Safe?

LED Light Therapy is a non-invasive treatment which, when correctly used, medical studies show to have no adverse side-effects. It has been used effectively for more than 15 years for both aesthetic and medical applications.

Unlike other types of light therapy, LEDs produce a pure light wavelength and do not contain ultraviolet rays. This means they are safe for regular use and cannot cause sunburn or tanning of the skin.

What is the difference between red light and near-infrared?

Red light targets the dermal layers, providing excellent results in collagen and elastin synthesis. Near-infrared is a frequency of light just below the visible spectrum and is able to penetrate even deeper into the dermis. It can reach the subcutaneous layer of skin and the muscle to enable deep tissue repair and cellular regeneration.

Is LED Light Therapy suitable for me?

LED Light Therapy is suitable for all skin types and colours. It assists the skin’s own ability to rejuvenate itself by boosting collagen synthesis and stimulating wound healing.

Do not use LED Light Therapy if you’re taking Accutane or any medicine that makes your skin sensitive to sunlight such as some antibiotics. Do not use LED Light Therapy if you are pregnant.

What do I need to do to prepare for my treatment?

Be well hydrated when you arrive for your treatment. If possible, arrive without makeup or sunscreen on. Alert your clinician if you have ether of these on your treatment area so she can remove them for you before treatment begins.

For best results, exfoliate the night before your treatment.

What does LED Light Therapy feel like?

Undergoing treatment feels like lying on the beach and basking in the sun – but without the harmful UV rays! Your skin should get no more than slightly warm, but the “glow” sensation can last hours after your treatment.

How long is a treatment session?

KMK AESTHETICS use medical-grade LED Light Therapy machines. Because of the power of these machines, treatment time does not exceed 20 minutes. Sessions are therefore 30 minutes in length including preparation time.

What will I look like when I leave the clinic?

LED Light Therapy is a noninvasive treatment with few, if any, risks. There will be no redness or swelling when you complete your treatment session leaving you free to resume normal activities.

What do I need to do to care for my skin after LED Light Therapy?

KMK AESTHETICS recommends that you apply a sunscreen immediately after your treatment session. It is Okay to reapply makeup immediately. There is no “downtime” after LED Light Therapy, but it is best not to undertake exercise until the following day.

Can I put makeup on straight after LED Light Therapy?

You can apply makeup straight after your treatment session. We also strongly recommend a Sunscreen too.

What results should I expect after my first treatment?

LED Light Therapy is incremental and builds on the work of previous treatments. This means your should expect results from your first treatment to be relatively minor, but improvement should increase significantly with each further treatment. Improvement to your skin should even continue after your last treatment.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

A course of LED Light Therapy is usually 10 sessions spaced at weekly or twice weekly intervals. Expect your skin to continue improving for several weeks after your final treatment.

When I have completed all my treatment sessions, how long will the effects last?

The effects of LED Light Therapy are not permanent. This is because your skin cells are constantly being shed and renewed. Expect to have follow-up sessions in around 4 to 6 months.

Chemical Peels

What happens during a Chemical Peel?

Before getting a chemical peel, some patients need to follow a pre-peel skin care plan for 2 to 4 weeks. This plan can improve results and reduce potential side effects. We will let you know if this is necessary.

On the day of your peel, you will first be prepped for the treatment. This includes cleansing your skin thoroughly.

After you are prepped, we will apply the peel quickly and evenly. We will watch your skin carefully to remove the peel at just the right time.

After the peel comes off, your skin will be treated as needed. This may be in the form of a cool compresses followed by a serum or cream to soothe your skin.

What must I do after getting a chemical peel?
  • Use the moisturizer as directed to keep your skin moist and supple. If your skin dries and cracks, it can scar.
  • If your skin burns, itches, or swells, contact your dermatologist. Rubbing or scratching skin treated with a chemical peel can cause an infection.
  • Do not use a tanning bed or other type of indoor tanning. Your skin will not heal properly.
  • After your skin heals, apply sunscreen every day. This will help you maintain results

If these instructions are not adhered to you can risk having serious side effects

What are the possible side effects?
  • Persistent redness that may last for months.
  • Temporary darkening of the skin.
  • Scarring
I am not sure if a chemical peel is what I need. What should I do?
